Are AussieDoodles good family dogs?

We think AussieDoodles are the BEST family dogs. With intelligent, loyal, loving, and playful being some of their top traits how could they not be? On top of that they are low/no shedding and hypoallergenic. Wondering if an AussieDoodle is right for your family? Read this to find out.

How much does an AussieDoodle eat?

Do AussieDoodles have blue eyes?

Not all AussieDoodles have blue eyes, but many do. Blue eyes come from the Australian Shepherd half of this doodle. It is more common with the merle coated dogs, but if the genetics are available any colored AussieDoodle can have blue eyes.  It is also common to see two different colored eyes or even marbled blue eyes. Having blue eyes is not a health concern, but it may mean your dog is slightly more sensitive to light; similar to humans with lighter colored eyes. Other common eye colors an AussieDoodle may have are brown, hazel, amber, or green.

How big do AussieDoodles get?

Aussiedoodles come in all shapes and sizes! At AwesomeDoodle the majority of our puppies will grow to be the “mini” size, between 20-40lbs. We do have a few Toy and Standard sized litters a year as well. When shopping for an Aussiedoodle puppy, you’ll hear lots of different opinions on sizing, including what sizes qualify as “toy”, “mini”, or “standard”, therefore, we try not to label them, and just give you the estimated full grown weights.

What coat colors do AussieDoodles have?

Are AussieDoodles aggressive?

It is not common to hear of an aggressive AussieDoodle. These dogs are friendly and loving, eager to meet and greet any person that crosses their path. As with any canine, proper socialization at an early age will help insure that your AussieDoodle gets along with his fellow furry friends. Dogs do have a “pack mentality” and on occasion will become territorial over things like food, toys, or their owners. Make sure your AussieDoodle knows YOU are in charge from the get go.

Do AussieDoodles bark a lot?

AussieDoodles are not known to be excessive barkers, but they are known to grow separation anxiety; which can lead to barking when you are not home. This can be prevented with proper training and early socialization. AussieDoodles may also bark if they are bored or want your attention. Are AussieDoodles tails docked?

It is standard procedure for breeders to dock the tails of both Australian Shepherds and Poodles.  This tradition started long ago for working and hunting purposes. Now a days, most AussieDoodle breeders do not dock tails.  Tails are a great way for a dog to communicate.

Do AussieDoodles need to be groomed?

AussieDoodle owners typically take their pets to the groomer every 8-12 weeks. Regular brushing is also recommended to prevent matting of their hair.  Finding the proper grooming tools is essential.

What is an F2 AussieDoodle?

An F2 AussieDoodle is a second generation Doodle. This happens when an F1 AussieDoodle is bred to another F1 AussieDoodle.  Poodles are non shedding dogs are considered more allergen friendly and therefore AussieDoodles are low/no shedding dogs as well.

What does an F1b AussieDoodle mean?

An AussieDoodle is a mix between the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle. How much of a mix is what determines the label F1 or F1B.  If the dog is 50% Australian Shepherd and 50% Poodle, they are considered an F1 or First Generation AussieDoodle.  An F1B AussieDoodle is an F1 AussieDoodle bred to a Poodle. Thus making the dog 25% Aussie, and 75% Poodle. Poodles are considered hypoallergenic and therefore some people prefer to have more poodle in their doodle.

Can AussieDoodles be left alone?

It is not recommended to leave your AussieDoodle puppy at home alone for more than 4 hours. Even an adult AussieDoodle will get stir crazy and be more prone to naughty behavior if left alone for too long. These dogs are wonderful companions, and often referred to as “velcro dogs”.  They want to be with you, ALL THE TIME.  Separation anxiety is fairly common with this breed, but early crate training can do wonders for this.

How often should I bathe my Aussiedoodle?

Puppies are always getting into things. It seems when you get a new puppy they need a bath every other day! Adult AussieDoodles usually don’t require much bathing. They do however, require routine grooming to prevent matting of their hair.  Typically an AussieDoodle will need a trip to the groomer every 6-8 weeks. Finding the right products that work for your dog, and brushing regularly will help keep him lookin’ good all year round.

Do AussieDoodles like to cuddle?

AussieDoodles are the best little snuggle buddies! When you combine the Poodle and the Australian Shepherd, loyal and affectionate are some of the top traits you will get.  Known as “Velcro Dogs”,  you will never hear an AussieDoodle owner complain about being lonely.

Do AussieDoodles like swimming?

Most AussieDoodles love to swim! The Poodle has a long history of water retriever sport hunting and is known as a water-loving dog. While Australian Shepherds do not have any such history, they typically also love the water.  When your AussieDoodle is a puppy it is important to introduce them to water appropriately, and ideally in their socialization window of up to 14 weeks.

Are AussieDoodles easy to train?

AussieDoodles come from two of the most intelligent dog breeds, the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle, making them little doggy Einsteins.  As a result, they are not only exceptionally easy to train but they LOVE to learn and will start picking up on basic commands very quickly.  Some would even say they can learn to read your mind, being emotionally intelligent dogs as well.

At what age is an AussieDoodle full grown?

AussieDoodles are fully developed anywhere between 6-18 months. The size of your AussieDoodle puppy is the determining factor. Typically, Smaller dogs can be done growing around 6-8 months of age while larger dogs may take up to 18 months. At AwesomeDoodle you can watch your puppy grow even before she comes home to you!

What is the lifespan of an AussieDoodle?

A typical lifespan for an AussieDoodle is 12-15 years. It is important to find a breeder that is doing proper health testing to ensure best possible longevity outcomes. Proper nutrition and routine exercise is also essential to keep your furry companion happy and in good health.

Are AussieDoodles calm?

AussieDoodles are considered more of a “high maintenance” dog. Both the Australian Shepherd and Pooodle are very intelligent and active breed. This means your AussieDoodle puppy will need a little more exercise and mental stimulation than some other doodle breeds would. How do you house train an AussieDoodle?

Most people are surprised at how easy it is to train our AussieDoodles. They tell us their AussieDoodle puppy is 90% potty trained by 4 months old and by 6 months, they don’t have any more accidents. How much do AussieDoodles cost?

If you shop around, you’ll see dog breeders selling AussiePoos anywhere from $1200 – $6000. That is a huge margin, however the cost of an AussieDoodle puppy is usually directly related to the quality of mom and dad, the way puppies are raised (in the home or in the garage) and most importantly, the service you’ll get from the breeder.
