What is a BerneDoodle?

A BerneDoodle is a cross between an Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. If bred and raised correctly, this results in an incredibly affectionate and loyal family dog. They are generally very intelligent family members, yet not as intense and demanding as an AussieDoodle.

What you need to know about our BerneDoodles

Our BerneDoodles have the same friendly, loyal, gentle nature of the Bernese Mountain Dog combined with the intelligence and the low shedding coat of the poodle. They are the calmest of our doodles and their “go with the flow” attitude makes them a great addition to even the busiest of families. We typically raise standard size F1 and F1B BerneDoodles weighing upward of 50lbs, and we occasionally have a litter of minis here and there. These big lovable fur babies make manageable pets without the drooling and shedding that make caring for the Bernese Mountain Dog a high maintenance job. BerneDoodles are best known for having a tri-color coat and an adorable shaggy teddy bear look that will draw them lots of attention. AwesomeDoodle also raises non traditional color BerneDoodles as well.

These happy-go-lucky dogs are easy going, great with children, and up for everything from a morning jog to snuggles on the sofa. They enjoy running, swimming, playing fetch and all kinds of other activities but only require moderate activity to be content. They will need daily exercise but typically a daily walk should do the trick to keep them happy. Every dog is an individual, so you will get to know how much your dog needs. While they are larger than our AussieDoodles, some might consider them a little less work because they don’t need the constant attention and mental stimulation that our AussieDoodles require.

Have another pet in the house? BerneDoodles easily adjust to and often bond with other animals. They are very social and love nothing more than to be with their families. These dogs are lovers, and are too friendly to be a guard dog, although they might alert you when a stranger approaches your home. Their exceptional temperament and all of these qualities make them ideal therapy dogs.

BerneDoodles inherit their intelligence from the poodle and are very trainable, however these doodles can sometimes have a stubborn streak as puppies. When it comes to training your BerneDoodle, you’ll need to be extra diligent and firm in those first few months. Just know that with early socialization, consistency and patience, your puppy will become a loyal companion for many years to come.
